Kai Havertz has been linked with a move away from Chelsea at the end of the season, with Real Madrid interested in him.

A report from Defensa Central claims that Real Madrid are interested in signing 23-year-old German international Kai Havertz when the summer transfer window opens.

Real Madrid are looking to add more depth to their attack, and Havertz has popped up on their radar. The 23-year-old has not been able to live up to the expectations since his big-money move to Stamford Bridge.

Despite helping the Blues win the UEFA Champions League trophy by scoring the winning goal in the final against Manchester City, Havertz has not been able to deliver consistently. The 23-year-old German international has mostly been used as the striker at Stamford Bridge. And it is evident that he is not a prolific goalscorer.

Chelsea will have to bring in a reliable goal scorer at the end of the season. And it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to cash in on someone like Havertz in order to boost their transfer budget. The player has been linked with Manchester City as well.

Chelsea have been spending unsustainably over the last two windows. So they will have to curb their transfer expenses to comply with the FFP regulations soon. Havertz was regarded as a world-class talent during his time in the Bundesliga, and he was expected to develop into a superstar.

Things have clearly not gone according to plan for him at Stamford Bridge. So moving away from Chelsea and London could be ideal for him. A fresh start at Real Madrid could help the player regain his confidence and form.

The 23-year-old has seven goals across all competitions, and he could prove to be a useful addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s attack. Real Madrid could definitely use more depth in the final third, and Havertz is capable of leading the line. In addition, e can slot in as the central attacking midfielder as well.

With Marco Asensio in with a chance to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires, Real Madrid will need to bring in more creativity and add goals to the side. Havertz would thus be a superb long-term acquisition.

Working with a manager like Ancelotti could help unlock his potential as well. Meanwhile, Chelsea have been linked with a number of strikers recently. And the departure of Havertz could help them spend big money on a proven goalscorer at the end of the season.
