Newcastle United are all set to battle it out with Chelsea for the signature of Napoli star Victor Osimhen ahead of next season.

According to Carlo Jacomuzzi via Calcio Napoli 1926, Newcastle United will fight it out with Chelsea for Victor Osimhen. The 24-year-old has been on fire in the ongoing season. And a lot of clubs across Europe have their eyes set on him.

However, Jacomuzzi believes that Newcastle United and Chelsea are two of the best possible options for the Nigerian international. He said, “Among all clubs, it is Newcastle are one of those who make use of this principle of play. Chelsea are also a team in which I would see the Nigerian well. The Blues are getting closer, over the years and with different managements, to what English football really is.”

Osimhen joined Napoli back in the summer of 2020 from LOSC Lille. The 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength since joining the Serie A outfit. He has featured in 88 matches for the Naples-based club and has 62 goal contributions.

The Nigeria international has been in sensational form in the ongoing season. He has found the back of the net on 21 occasions in his 26 outings. Osimhen is currently leading the race for the Serie A golden boot with 19 goals to his name.

The 24-year-old has played an integral part in Napoli’s dream run in the ongoing season. The Partenopei are currently leading the race for the Serie A title. They have a 15-point lead over second-placed Inter Milan and are almost certain of winning the league.

Osimhen’s current contract with Napoli ends in the summer of 2025. But, because of the interest from across Europe in his services, he is likely to leave in the summer.

The Nigerian striker is a big admirer of Chelsea since his childhood days. And, the Blues are keen on having his services ahead of next season. They have the financial power to prise him away from Italy and are in desperate need of a new number nine as the goals have dried up at Stamford Bridge of late.

However, they will face tough competition from Newcastle United. The Magpies are the richest club in the world post their takeover. They are looking to build a team that can win major trophies. Newcastle have already added a few pieces of the jigsaw in the past few transfer windows. And, they have identified the 24-year-old as the next big piece who can take them closer to their goals.

His arrival will give Eddie Howe a lot more firepower. He will bring goals as well as physical presence in the final third. Howe would love to have his services and is willing to push for the 24-year-old in the summer. However, it will still be a tough battle to acquire Osimhen given the interest from across Europe in his services.
