Liverpool are keeping tabs on the situation of James Maddison as he enters the final year of his contract at Leicester City.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool have joined the chase for James Maddison. The Merseysiders are keeping tabs on the England international, while other rivals are eyeing up for a move in the summer.

James Maddison could finally move out of Leicester City in the summer, with the 26-year-old Premier League playmaker entering the final year of his deal. The England international has no shortage of suitors in the English market, as several top sides remain keen to sign him.

Leicester City have fought hard over the years to keep Maddison on board. Arsenal were keen two summers ago, only for his huge price tag posing a problem. The Gunners re-signed Martin Odegaard instead, who has been a tremendous success at the Emirates.

Newcastle United were keen in January, but Leicester’s high asking price again ensured Maddison remained at the club. The Magpies have Manchester City and Tottenham in the chase for the 26-year-old Premier League playmaker, with Liverpool joining them now as Jurgen Klopp eyes a midfield revamp.

Leicester will be aware of not making the same mistake as they did with Youri Tielemans. Arsenal were keen on the Belgian last summer, but they did not want to pay over the odds for a player in the final year of his contract. Maddison will be in a similar situation, with the Foxes wary of losing further ground.

Maddison could stay put for another year, although he is ready to leave Leicester in the summer. The Foxes risk losing another big name on a free transfer, and hence there are chances they will accept reasonable offers in the summer.

Those may not come close to their £60-70 million valuation, which the report insists would prove enough to secure the 26-year-old Premier League playmaker. Clubs like Liverpool would want to see the price tag slashed as they will tempt the player over a move.

Liverpool are actively pursuing Maddison for next season, as Klopp wants notable names as part of his midfield revamp. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita could depart Anfield in the summer, with the future of Thiago also under consideration.

Maddison will add a different dimension to the side, with his attacking impetus and ability to score regularly considered huge. The 26-year-old Premier League playmaker has nine goals and five assists in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool will certainly bank on their reputation and pulling power if it comes down to a transfer battle for the playmaker. They will have considerable clout if Klopp steers the side to a Champions League place.
