According to Football Insider, Leicester City have slapped a massive £60-70 million price tag on flashy midfielder James Maddison amid interest from Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur in a potential summer transfer swoop.

Maddison has shone for the East Midlands club since his £20 million move from Norwich City in 2018 and has been a cornerstone of a Leicester side that has been punching well above their weight in recent seasons. In fact, he has been one of the best players in the Premier League over the past two seasons and has nine goals and five assists in 17 matches so far this campaign.

With his contract expiring in less than 18 months, he could well be on the move this summer. As such, tying him down to a new contract has been at the top of Brendan Rodgers’s list.

However, Maddison has shown little sign of penning a new contract at the King Power Stadium in recent weeks, leading to speculation that he could soon be set to leave Leicester in search of a fresh challenge in the not-too-distant future. It is said that Leicester could be tempted to sell Maddison if the money is right, but any successful offer would need to be very high in order to part ways with their talisman.

The Magpies, for one, have been credited with long-standing interest in signing Maddison and reportedly made two bids to sign him last summer. But they were eventually priced out of the deal. They were even tipped to bring him to St. James’ Park in January as Eddie Howe looked to reinforce his squad in advance of the Premier League run-in.

It would come as no surprise if Newcastle were back in for the player come summer. But a bidding war could soon take shape ahead of the summer transfer window, with Tottenham and Manchester City also linked with a move to land him lately.

If there was ever any doubt about Tottenham’s interest in the 26-year-old attacking midfielder, Cristian Stellini recently revealed that he and the coaching staff are fans of the England international. Spurs will need to secure a place in the Champions League for the upcoming season to stand a chance of landing Maddison, as there won’t be a shortage of suitors for him this summer.

As for the interest from Manchester City, Ilkay Gundogan is out of contract at the Etihad in the summer and has yet to sign a new contract. Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva continues to be linked with a move away. So, a player like Maddison could be capable of providing Pep Guardiola with a fresh option in the midfield and final third of the pitch.
