Arsenal and Liverpool are keeping tabs on the situation of Levi Colwill as the 20-year-old Chelsea prospect’s future remains undecided.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal and Liverpool are monitor the situation of Levi Colwill. The 20-year-old Chelsea prospect’s future remains undecided. And the Blues are contemplating their next move after an impressive spell at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Levi Colwill’s stock went up after an impressive loan spell with Huddersfield Town in the second half of last season. He returned to Chelsea, hoping to integrate with the first team. New co-owner Todd Boehly had grand plans with recruitment. He spent big on Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella, who essentially play in his position.

With the defender eager to have regular game time, he joined Brighton on a season-long loan deal, possibly as part of the deal for Cucurella. Despite his immense talent, the current Chelsea boss at Brighton did not play him enough. Colwill only featured twice as a substitute.

A similar pattern ensued under Roberto De Zerbi, as he went without playing for Brighton for the first nine games under the Italian. Since then, he has cemented a place in a back three and continues to impress despite a few niggling injury troubles.

The 20-year-old will return to Stamford Bridge in the summer, where his future is the subject of intense speculation. Chelsea are reportedly determined to keep him. The excess competition for places on the left side of the defence will make Colwill think it through before deciding.

Meanwhile, Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Colwill’s situation. Chelsea might even consider an offer if they get funds that ease up the FFP pressure after their recent heavy spending. They are contemplating the futures of several other homegrown or academy stars. Those include Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Liverpool, in particular, are looking to make smart additions to their backline. Despite Virgil van Dijk’s resurgence in form, his long-term prospects are in question amid his declining stature. They are currently linked with a big money move for Josko Gvardiol. Colwill is a transfer that would make sense for a third of the price for the Croatian.

A 20-year-old Chelsea prospect could get acquainted with how Liverpool play for a season. He could then gradually integrate himself into the backline as Klopp could use a similar method he deployed with Ibrahima Konate.

The Reds may have Arsenal as competition in the chase for Colwill. Mikel Arteta’s left side of the defence remains secured with Gabriel Magalhaes and January’s arrival of Jakub Kiwior. Yet, the idea of signing a 20-year-old prospect with a promising future may appeal to the Gunners’ boss.

For now, Liverpool would make more sense from Colwill’s perspective, with the club needing a defender of his profile. Arsenal could also become a tempting prospect. They already have two left-footed centre-backs in their ranks who are senior to him in every aspect.
