European giants Real Madrid are interested in signing 31-year-old Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino ahead of next season.

According to a report by Defensa Central, Real Madrid are interested in the services of Roberto Firmino. The 31-year-old Liverpool forward is all set to leave the club in the summer and has become a great option for clubs who are in search of a new striker.

Firmino’s existing contract at Liverpool ends in the summer. The 31-year-old has decided against renewing it. And he has informed the club about parting ways ahead of next season. The Brazilian forward is set to be a free agent in a few months’ time.

The experienced striker joined Liverpool back in the summer of 2015 from TSG Hoffenheim. He has been a great servant of the club and has done wonders for them. The Brazil international has won every major trophy out there with Liverpool. And, after almost eight years with the Reds, he has decided to take the next step in his career.

Firmino has made over 350 appearances for the Merseyside club. He has found the back of the net 108 times and has 79 assists to his name while playing for Jurgen Klopp’s team. In the ongoing season, the 31-year-old has 15 goal contributions in 27 outings.

It has been another great season for the Brazilian, and he still has a few more years left in him. Meanwhile, Spanish giants Real Madrid have their eyes on Firmino. Los Blancos are in search of a new number nine.

Their leading marksman Karim Benzema is already 35 and in the twilight of his career. Carlo Ancelotti is in search of someone who can help him rotate Benzema. And Firmino looks like a decent option to have given his playing style. The Brazilian forward has a similar style to that of the Real Madrid captain.

Ancelotti will surely enter the summer market for a new striker. Los Blancos have a great option in Firmino who will be available for free ahead of next season. But, with the Brazilian attacker on the wrong side of 30, it might not be the deal that Real Madrid want at this point in time.

The 31-year-old has a history of injuries which have kept him out of the side for long periods of time. While he has done wonders on the pitch there are a few concerns that might not work in his favour. So as they weigh up the pros and cons, it will be interesting to see if Firmino ends up joining Real Madrid.
