According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Rafael Leao is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are considering signing the Portuguese international, whose market value is €85 million, in the summer transfer window.
Rafael Leao has gone from strength to strength since joining AC Milan from LOSC Lille in August 2019. The 23-year-old was always a highly-rated prospect in his first few years as a professional footballer. And he has gone a long way in fulfilling his immense potential during his ongoing stint with AC Milan.
The Portuguese international has also become a regular fixture for his national side in the last few years. Meanwhile, Leao is enjoying a solid 2022/23 season, despite AC Milan’s inconsistencies. And he has managed nine goals and ten assists in 32 appearances thus far. Meanwhile, his market value has risen to €85 million. And the player has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid will likely enter the market for at least one attacking reinforcement in the summer transfer window. And there is a gamut of reasons why the Merengues need to bolster their offensive unit at the end of the season. Firstly, Karim Benzema has struggled with fitness issues this term.
In addition, Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio face uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu. With at least one player likely to leave, Real Madrid will need to dip into the market for a replacement. Leao has thus emerged on Los Blancos’ radar. But Real Madrid will face stiff competition from Chelsea and a few other clubs for the Portuguese international.
At the same time, signing Leao does not make sense, considering Vinicius Junior has made the left-wing berth his own. Pursuing a striker is thus a more sensible option for Real Madrid. That is also because the 23-year-old will cost much higher than his market value of €85 million.
Meanwhile, the report claims Kylian Mbappe is another possible target for the summer transfer window. And it will be interesting to see if either player becomes a priority for Real Madrid at the end of the season.
