Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Raheem Sterling will not leave Chelsea for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
According to his exclusive column for Caught Offside, reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea star Raheem Sterling is not on his way to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The English international came through the ranks at Queens Park Rangers before enjoying his breakout at Liverpool. He went on to play a key role in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City revolution before moving to Chelsea last month. Sterling enjoyed a bright start at Stamford Bridge before his form petered away.
A return of six goals and three assists from 25 games does not inspire much confidence. Given his role in the Blues’ roster, Sterling is among the senior stars in Graham Potter’s side and needs to shoulder more responsibility. Meanwhile, his market value now stands at €70 million.
This has seen him get linked with a move to Arsenal, who are enjoying a renaissance under Mikel Arteta. Sterling is familiar with the Spaniard, given they worked together at Manchester City and could re-ignite that flame in red.
However, Romano has played down the links, stating that Arsenal do not necessarily need a left-winger at this stage. The Gunners signed Leandro Trossard in the January transfer window and are also close to extending Bukayo Saka’s stay at the Emirates.
Saka is nigh on undroppable when fit, while Trossard is an excellent backup. While Arsenal could do with an addition or two in attack going forward, it is questionable if Sterling is that man. At 28, the Englishman should be in the prime of his career. However, that is not the case with him having fallen off in recent years. Gone is Sterling’s ability to leave players for dead, and little has changed since his move to Chelsea.
The Blues brought in several players of late and have several players who can do a job on the flanks. However, Nordi Mukiele and especially Mykhaylo Mudryk have failed to deliver so far. With Christian Pulisic struggling with injuries and Hakim Ziyech out of favour, Chelsea need experienced players who can step up and make a difference.

Sterling can be that man but is in need of inspiration at the Bridge. Should he even rediscover an iota of the fire in his belly, Potter will be handed a major weapon to salvage the season with.
