Chelsea consider re-signing Tammy Abraham

Chelsea are reportedly considering signing 25-year-old English striker Tammy Abraham from AS Roma this summer.

Tammy Abraham has made quite an impression since moving to AS Roma from Chelsea. And a report from Football Insider claims that the Blues are looking to bring the 25-year-old back at the end of the season.

Tammy Abraham has been an impressive acquisition for the Italian club. And he managed to score 27 goals across all competitions last season. He also helped them win the UEFA Europa Conference League in the 2022/23 campaign.

The English international has contributed to seven goals and five assists across all competitions this season. And he is undoubtedly an important player for Jose Mourinho’s side despite his falling levels. Abraham has been linked with Arsenal as well.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are prepared to break the bank for him. The Blues have the option to sign the player at the end of this season for a fee of around £70.5 million because of a clause in the player’s contract, which was inserted during his sale.

It is no secret that Chelsea will have to bring in attacking reinforcements at the end of the season. And a reliable goalscorer could transform them. While the Blues have added a lot of creativity to the side in recent windows, they are still lacking a reliable goalscorer who can find the back of the net consistently.

Abraham has certainly proven his goalscoring pedigree in Italy. And he has shown his quality in England before with Chelsea and Aston Villa. It remains to be seen whether Abraham is keen on returning to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. He will probably feel that he has unfinished business at the Premier League club and will be determined to showcase his quality in England.

A return to Chelsea could boost his chances of playing for England on a regular basis as well. However, the £70.5 million clause is a steep price to pay, and Chelsea will probably feel that they can sign someone with a higher ceiling for that kind of money.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months now. As for Roma, they will be powerless to stop the player from leaving if the clause is triggered by the Blues. Meanwhile, Chelsea have several other strikers on their radar, including Marcus Thuram.
