Barcelona interested in Elias Romero

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly tracking the progress of 18-year-old Spanish attacking sensation Elias Romero at Las Palmas.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Elias Romero is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keeping tabs on the progress of the 18-year-old Las Palmas attacking sensation. And a move in the summer transfer window might be on the cards.

Las Palmas might slowly start to become a breeding ground for Barcelona. The Catalan giants have already signed Pedri from the Canary Islands-based club. And they are also keen on signing Alberto Moleiro, recently discussing a move for the teenage wonderkid. The latest Las Palmas prodigy to emerge on Barcelona’s radar is Elias Romero.

The 18-year-old has set age-group football in Spain on fire with his exploits in the final third. Romero is a versatile attacker who can play across the frontline. But he is at his most effective when he features on the right wing or as a central striker. By his own account, he is a team player and embodies the spirit in his gameplay.

The Spanish attacking sensation has also suggested that he prefers to play “up top” instead of on the flanks. But he likes “running into space”, which aligns with his positioning on the right wing. So he can potentially be an asset for a top club with his versatility. And Moleiro’s progress has alerted Barcelona.

Robert Lewandowski has made the central striker’s slot his own since arriving from Bayern Munich. And while that is hardly surprising, Barcelona will need to plan for life after the veteran Pole soon. That is because Lewandowski is well into his thirties and approaching the final phase of his career.

Several strikers, including Vitor Roque, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar. And Elias Romero is another option worth considering for Barcelona. That is because, unlike Roque, he will not cost a bomb and might fall within the Catalan club’s budget. And the Blaugrana will have struck gold if he progresses like Pedri.

For now, the Catalan giants are simply monitoring the player’s progress. But it will be interesting to see if a move in the near future sees the light of day. Moleiro and Romero will likely remain on Barcelona’s radar for the foreseeable future.
