Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Conor Gallagher, valued by Chelsea at £30 million, at the end of the season.
A report from Football Insider claims that Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher could be available for a fee of around £30 million at the end of the season. And Newcastle United have set aside huge funds to bring in central midfield reinforcements.
Newcastle are one of the richest clubs in the world. And they should have no problems paying the £30 million fee for Gallagher. The 23-year-old has been a squad player for Chelsea and will be hoping to join a club where he can play regularly. The highly-talented midfielder has started just 12 games for Chelsea across all competitions.
But he needs to play more often in order to continue his development and fulfil his potential. Gallagher was outstanding during his loan spell at Crystal Palace last season and will hope to play at that level consistently. Regular game time at Newcastle will certainly help him do that. He has been linked with Liverpool as well.
Newcastle will be hoping to bring in a quality partner for Bruno Guimaraes. And the Chelsea midfielder would certainly fit in. Gallagher would add energy and defensive cover in the middle of the park. And Newcastle could certainly use someone like him.
The Magpies lost Jonjo Shelvey to Nottingham Forest during the January transfer window, and Gallagher would be an upgrade on him. The 23-year-old is yet to reach his peak. And a manager like Eddie Howe could help him improve further.
The Newcastle manager has a proven track record of nurturing talented young players throughout his managerial career. And his arrival at Newcastle has certainly helped players like Joelinton and Miguel Almiron improve. He could play a key role in the development of the Chelsea midfielder as well.
Newcastle are well placed to secure Champions League qualification for the next season. And they would be in a great position to attract players like Gallagher if they manage to finish in the top four. Meanwhile, Newcastle are set to take on Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. And a trophy win could make them an attractive proposition for most players.
