Tottenham Hotspur can reportedly sign 23-year-old midfielder target Morten Hjulmand for €15 million but face competition next summer.

According to Calcio Mercato via Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur could sign Morten Hjulmand for €15 million in the summer. Lecce are reportedly keen on a sale, but Spurs face competition for the 23-year-old midfielder, but their lure could prove irresistible for the player.

Tottenham Hotspur will enter the summer window needing key reinforcements, as Antonio Conte has several important areas to strengthen. The Italian boss could target defensive additions, with midfield considered one of the priority areas.

There are doubts over Conte’s future beyond the current season, but Tottenham has already identified the squad’s weak spots. They might likely execute a few transfer decisions irrespective of the Italian’s decision over his future.

With some of the performances this season, their need for a midfielder has been glaringly clear. Having missed Rodrigo Bentancur for a reasonable period, his return coincided with good form. They could struggle for the remainder of the season after the Uruguayan was ruled out for around nine months.

Hence, Spurs will look for decent depth in the position and want someone versatile in the ranks. Morten Hjulmand is their reported target, with Lecce likely to entertain offers in the summer. The 23-year-old midfielder plays primarily at the base of midfield, but his contributions in the final third have caught the attention.

Hjulmand has four assists in 21 Serie A games this season, which has caught the attention of Tottenham. Lecce are open to selling the 23-year-old midfielder, as they might demand €15 million for the Danish star. The price point would open multiple possibilities in the market, with Spurs likely to compete with other clubs for his signature.

Southampton are in the race for the midfielder, having seen a €13 million bid rejected in January. They might return for the Danish star if the Saints avoid relegation in the summer. Considering the level Hjulmand has been playing recently, he would certainly entertain an offer from Tottenham.

The report suggests Hjulmand has a tattoo of Arsenal on his shoulder, who are Tottenham’s arch-rivals. Many players in the past have supported the Gunners and played for Tottenham, most notably Matt Doherty and all-time top scorer Harry Kane.
