Chelsea want to permanently sign the 23-year-old Portuguese forward Joao Felix on an urgent basis.
According to AS via SportWitness, Chelsea are desperate to sign Joao Felix even before the transfer window opens. Felix has impressed one and all in the few outings for the Blues. And the club want to strike a deal with Atletico Madrid in the coming weeks.
The Portuguese forward joined the Blues in January on a loan deal. It was a simple loan move without any buy option that saw the 23-year-old join Graham Potter’s team. The London-based club do not want to wait unit the summer to sign the young forward.
Potter wants him at Chelsea and their new owner Todd Boehly wants to finalize a deal as soon as possible. Ever since Boehly bought the club, they have been proactive in their transfer dealings. They have already spent millions on players and are still looking to add a few more to their ranks. They have started talks to sign Felix on a permanent basis.
His performances have convinced the people at the London-based club that he could turn around their fortunes. The Blues have been struggling in the ongoing season and are willing to spend even more in order to improve their situation.
Felix had signed a contract extension with Atletico Madrid ahead of his move to Stamford Bridge. His current contract with Diego Simone’s team ends in 2027 which will give the Madrid-based club a strong position in negotiations.
The Blues want to sign him in the coming weeks but they do not have the green signal from Atletico Madrid’s CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín. Marin doesn’t want to sell the star forward at the moment. And, Todd Boehly’s men have a tough task on their hands to convince him.
The 23-year-old forward has featured in 24 matches and has been directly involved in nine goals so far this season. He got off to a nightmare start for Potter’s side with a red card against Fulham on his Premier League debut. But he has managed to bounce back having already found the back of the net once.
The Portugal international is a perfect fit for the London-based club. Potter is convinced that his arrival on a permanent basis will do wonders in the long run. Joao Felix’s future depends on whether Chelsea can convince Atletico Madrid’s CEO or not. If they do manage to persuade him they will have to break the bank to acquire his services.
