Manchester United are interested in signing 31-year-old Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou in the summer.

According to a report by TeamTalk, Manchester United are interested in signing Yassine Bounou from Sevilla in the summer of 2023. Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen United’s goalkeeping position and has identified Bounou as a key transfer target.

The Sevilla shot-stopper rose to the occasion at the FIFA World Cup 2022 and helped Morrocco create history. He came into the limelight because of his heroics in the mega event. The 31-year-old played an integral part in helping his team become the first African nation to feature in a World Cup semi-final.

The Moroccan keeper joined the Sevilla-based club in the summer of 2020 from Girona. Post his arrival at the club, he has been a regular. His performances have ensured that he is one of the first names on the team sheet.

Meanwhile, he has featured in 128 matches for the club and has 56 clean sheets to his name. In the ongoing season, he has played 24 matches for the Spanish outfit and has managed to keep a clean sheet in five of those outings.

He hasn’t had a great time of late and much of it is down to the team’s overall performance. Sevilla are currently 12th in the league with just 24 points out of their 21 matches. It has been a disappointing season for the club. And, they are almost certain to miss out on European football next season which may lead to the departure of Yassine Bounou.

The 31-year-old’s contract at the club in the summer of 2025. But, they might have to let him leave ahead of next season. The Morrocco international is valued at around €20 million.

The United boss is keen on having him at his disposal. But, the interesting bit is that Bounou will not come in as an undisputed number one. He will have to compete with David de Gea for a place in the starting XI. The 32-year-old shot-stopper’s contract ends in the summer but he is expected to pen down a new deal in the near future.

Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the player and wants him at Old Trafford. They are likely to face competition from Tottenham Hotspur who are also interested in his signature. But, as per reports, Manchester United are in the driving seat.
