Real Madrid are reportedly leading the race ahead of Barcelona for the signature of Manchester City marksman Erling Haaland.
According to a report by Fichajes, Real Madrid are best-positioned to sign Manchester City star Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker has been on fire ever since his move to City. Despite moving to the club in the summer of 2022, a lot of clubs have their eyes set on him due to the sanctions against the Manchester-based club.
Real Madrid have been interested in the Norwegian striker for a while now. Florentino Perez believes that Haaland can be a leader of the Real Madrid project in the long run. The star forward has made a habit of breaking records in the Premier League on a daily basis.
In the ongoing season, he has featured in 29 matches and has been involved in 35 goals. Haaland is leading the golden boot race and is likely to shatter quite a few records on his way to lifting it. The youngster has found the back of the net on 25 occasions in his 21 Premier League appearances.
The 22-year-old’s contract at Manchester City ends in the summer of 2027. However, as per the reports, he has a release clause that can be triggered in 2024. But, the recent sanctions on City could force the club to sell their star striker ahead of the next season.
If the allegations against the club come out to be true, they will face major consequences. Manchester City could be relegated or they could be handed a points deduction. And can even miss out on the UEFA Champions League. As a result, they might be forced to let him go.
Haaland has a desire of playing for one of the two La Liga giants, Barcelona and Real Madrid. And, with Barcelona struggling with financial issues, Real Madrid are the favourites to land the striker. They have the financial backing and are very much interested in acquiring the services of the star forward.
Carlo Ancelotti wants to add a forward to his squad in the summer. Real Madrid’s leading marksman Karim Benzema is already 35. And it makes perfect sense to acquire a replacement in the summer.
Despite, Barcelona’s financial struggles, they will still try to push for Haaland as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. And, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this battle between the Spanish giants.
