Chelsea are reportedly hoping to sign a top-quality midfielder in a potential box-office deal at the end of the season.

A report from Football Insider claims that Chelsea are searching for a quality midfield partner for Enzo Fernandez. And the west Londoners are ready to spend big money on a summer arrival.

The Blues could be prepared to let go of Connor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in order to make way for new signings at the end of the season. The midfield remains an area of concern for Graham Potter. And it is no surprise that the west Londoners are looking to bring in reinforcements.

Chelsea have already sold Jorginho to Arsenal. In addition, N’Golo Kante is set to be a free agent at the end of the season if he does not extend his contract. Potter will have to replace the French World Cup winner adequately. And bringing in a top-quality defensive midfielder should be a priority for the London club.

Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing the West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice. The 24-year-old is undoubtedly one of the best defensive midfielders in the league, and he could improve Chelsea immensely.

The player was released by the Blues from their academy during his teenage years. And Rice could be tempted to return to the west London club and prove himself. Meanwhile, the English internaitonal has been linked with a move to Arsenal as well. And it remains to be seen whether Chelsea can beat the Gunners to his signature just like they did with Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Rice has a contract with West Ham until the summer of 2024. And the Hammers could be forced to consider a sale at the end of the season. The 24-year-old has reportedly refused to sign an extension with the Hammers and is looking to join a club playing in the Champions league.

In that case, Chelsea will have to ensure that they finish in the top four. The Blues are currently tenth in the Premier League table, and Champions League qualification seems quite difficult for them right now.

The finances of the deal should not be a problem for the Blues who already spent £106 million on Enzo Fernandez last month. The report from Football Insider claims that Chelsea are ready to splash the cash once again in a box-office deal to find a quality partner for the Argentine World Cup winner.
