Barcelona and 31-year-old utility man Sergi Roberto have reportedly agreed to a new one-year contract running until June 30, 2024.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Sergi Roberto will soon sign a one-year contract extension with Barcelona. The two parties have finalised the agreement over the deal. And the Catalan giants are preparing the documents to officiate the renewal with the 31-year-old utility man.

Sergi Roberto has endured a rollercoaster ride since breaking into the first-team squad at FC Barcelona. The Spanish international has been with the Blaugrana for over 16 years, arriving at the club from Gimnastic de Tarragona. And the veteran rose through the ranks at La Masia before making his first-team debut in November 2010.

Since then, the 31-year-old has established himself as a handy asset for his managers at Spotify Camp Nou. And Roberto has been a utility man for Barcelona due to his ability to reprise various roles for his team. Initially a central midfielder, he has made his name as a right-back over the years.

But Roberto’s stock at Camp Nou has reduced in the last few years, with injuries taking a toll on him. However, the veteran utility man has been relatively healthier in the ongoing campaign. And with Hector Bellerin joining Sporting CP in the January transfer window, Roberto has featured more regularly for Barcelona.

The 31-year-old has turned out 18 times across all competitions for the Blaugrana this term. And he has chipped in with two goals and two assists in those outings. But Roberto’s contract expires at the end of the season, compelling Barcelona to look to tie him to a new deal. And they recently offered him a contract extension.

The reports suggested that Barcelona would offer him a one-year contract while having the option to extend the deal by twelve months. And they had been closing in on extending the player’s stay at Camp Nou. The two parties have now sealed the agreement over the renewal, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist has claimed that Barcelona and Roberto have agreed to a one-year extension. And the Catalan giants are now preparing the documents to officiate the renewal. So the official announcement surrounding the 31-year-old utility man should arrive imminently.
