Chelsea have plans in place to approach Inter Milan for 26-year-old defender Denzel Dumfries in the summer.

According to TMW via Sport Witness, Chelsea retains an interest in right-back Denzel Dumfries. The Blues have reportedly planned to make another attempt to sign the 26-year-old defender from Inter Milan, as he remains a key target.

Denzel Dumfries was a name mentioned late in the January transfer window as a possible target for many Premier League sides. The 26-year-old defender has impressed for Inter Milan and the Netherlands, as he emerged on the shortlist of many clubs.

Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly held talks with his agent in London before switching their attention toward other targets. Chelsea signed Malo Gusto from Lyon, although they let the defender stay at the French side for the remainder of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Spurs scrambled late for the signature of Pedro Porro, meaning Dumfries remained at Inter Milan. The main reason for the London side switching their interest from the Dutchman was Inter Milan’s asking price. Multiple reports insisted the Nerazzuri wanted around €55-60 million for the 26-year-old defender, which was unacceptable for the Premier League clubs.

Yet, Chelsea could return with an approach in the summer to test Inter’s resolve. Some stories insist they may have to pay around €40 million to sign the right-back. The Blues are open to adding the right players and going by their pursuit of the 26-year-old defender, he does feel like an important target.

Chelsea have reportedly planned on making an offer to test Inter’s resolve. They might also look for part-exchange deals to tempt the Italian giants into selling the 26-year-old defender. On paper, the Blues look well-stocked in the position with Reece James and Gusto for next season.

Hence, many would think Dumfries should not become a priority, but Chelsea remains determined to find a solution. The 26-year-old Dutchman plays as a right wing-back and adds more value to the attacking third.

This could become the reason for many clubs to pursue the defender. He may be open to moving clubs and joining Premier League teams. He will undoubtedly hope for Chelsea or someone else to carry out the operation and take him out of Inter next summer for his new challenge.
