Jorge Mendes has reportedly offered 25-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves to Barcelona.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will have the opportunity to sign Ruben Neves in the summer transfer window. Jorge Mendes has offered the 25-year-old to the Blaugrana. But Xavi Hernandez is not convinced by the Wolverhampton Wanderers captain’s qualities.

Ruben Neves has come a long way since taking the brave decision to join an EFL Championship club over half a decade ago. The Portuguese international took no time to guide Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Premier League. And he has helped them become Premier League mainstays in the last few seasons.

The 25-year-old has seen his stock skyrocket during this period, and he is now the club’s captain. Neves has turned out 238 times thus far for Wolverhampton Wanderers, chipping in with 29 goals and 12 assists. And the player’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.

Barcelona will look to lay down a succession plan for long-serving midfield general Sergio Busquets. The Barcelona captain is in the twilight of his illustrious career, and the Catalan giants need to identify his successor. Meanwhile, Busquets is yet to decide whether he will continue at Spotify Camp Nou beyond this season.

Recent reports have even claimed that he has not received a contract extension offer from Barcelona. Amid all this, the Blaugrana will need to be proactive in bringing in a long-term successor. And Ruben Neves has reportedly popped up on Barcelona’s radar as a viable target.

The report claims that Jorge Mendes has also offered the 25-year-old midfielder to Barcelona. But Xavi Hernandez is not convinced by Neves’s qualities and reckons the player will not fit into his system. So a move in the summer transfer window might not be on the cards for the Portuguese international.

Barcelona will not have a shortage of targets in the summer, either. And Marcelo Brozovic recently emerged on their radar as a potential option to bolster the midfield unit. As for Neves, a dream move to Spotify Camp Nou seems unlikely for the 25-year-old midfielder.
