Barcelona keeping tabs on Rodri

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly tracking the situations of several Manchester City players, including Rodri.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Sport Witness, Rodri is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are closely monitoring the situation surrounding Manchester City. And they will launch the offensive for the 26-year-old if the Citizens drop out of the Premier League.

Rodri spent his formative years with two of the biggest Spanish clubs, rising through the ranks at Atletico Madrid and Villarreal. The Spaniard also represented both clubs at the senior level before moving to England. And he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Manchester City.

The 26-year-old has been a pivotal figure for Manchester City in the last three and a half years. He has also won multiple trophies during this period while turning out 182 times thus far. But the recent controversy surrounding Manchester City has put the futures of a few players in doubt. And Barcelona will closely monitor Rodri’s situation at the Etihad in the coming months.

The Catalan giants have been interested in several Manchester City players in the last few years. Bernardo Silva has been Barcelona’s top target for a long time, with Ilkay Gundogan also a candidate to bolster the midfield unit. And Rodri has now emerged as an option to improve the Barcelona midfield.

Among the midfield targets from Manchester City, Rodri is the most ideal candidate to reinforce the Barcelona midfield. That is because Sergio Busquets is approaching the end of his glittering career. And Barcelona will look to lay down a succession plan for the veteran Spanish midfielder.

Recent reports have claimed that the Premier League champions are concerned about the future of the 26-year-old. But Manchester City will likely demand a premium to part ways with the Spanish international. However, the player might be available for a more affordable sum if the Citizens lose their Premier League status.

The Catalan giants also have other midfielders on their radar. But Rodri is arguably the best holding midfielder in the world while having previously played in La Liga. So it will be interesting to see if a move to Barcelona sees the light of day for the 26-year-old.
