Barcelona will reportedly prioritise signing 29-year-old Belgian international Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, Yannick Carrasco has become a priority target for Barcelona. The Blaugrana will look to sign the 29-year-old in the summer transfer window. But they are not willing to fork out €15 million to secure the services of the Atletico Madrid wide man.

Yannick Carrasco has been a pivotal figure since rejoining Atletico Madrid from Dalian Pro in 2020. The Belgian international has been a regular on the left flank for Los Rojiblancos, shining as a left wing-back. And he has also been a top performer for his national side for several years.

The 29-year-old has turned out 27 times across all competitions thus far this season, chipping in with four goals and two assists. But Carrasco’s time at Atletico Madrid might be drawing to a close. That is because he has been keen on joining Barcelona for a few weeks. And the Catalan giants are also interested in him.

Barcelona initiated discussions to sign Carrasco last month. But after agreeing to a deal for Memphis Depay with Atletico Madrid, Barcelona secured a preferential option to land the Belgian in the summer. And the Blaugrana can secure the player’s services by shelling out just €15 million.

The 29-year-old can slot in as a left winger in the system Xavi Hernandez currently employs at Spotify Camp Nou. And after selling Depay, Barcelona will have a vacancy in the wide-attacking department heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the player himself is prioritising joining Barcelona.

The report by Mundo Deportivo has claimed that the Blaugrana will prioritise signing Carrasco in the summer. But the Catalan giants do not want to trigger the preferential clause in their agreement with Atletico Madrid. And Barcelona will look to shell out a sum much lower than €15 million.

With Carrasco’s deal running out in less than 18 months, the Catalan giants believe Carrasco is not worth €15 million. But it will be interesting to see if Atletico Madrid will be willing to accept such a sum. For now, the 29-year-old Belgian international has become a priority target for Barcelona.
