Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez over a summer move.

Ben Jacobs has told Caught Offside that Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are tracking Edson Alvarez to make a summer approach. The Ajax midfielder could move clubs in the next window after the club blocked a move to Chelsea in 2022.

The Premier League’s top clubs will remain active for a new central midfielder in the summer transfer window. With high-profile options coming at a premium, some clubs could look elsewhere for an alternative who could do the same job.

For instance, Arsenal are eyeing a big move for Declan Rice. They are reportedly willing to break the bank for the West Ham United captain. For Mikel Arteta, shoring up the central midfield with a big-name player remains the priority for the summer, but he could also recruit someone to add quality depth to the position.

Ajax star Edson Alvarez is being reportedly considered by Arsenal in the summer when he might become available. The Dutch giants blocked a move for the 25-year-old midfield general in light of Chelsea’s interest. He remained keen to join the Blues if they returned in January, which never happened.

Ajax did not want to sell another key member of their squad after allowing Antony and Lisandro Martinez to join Manchester United. There is no indication that Chelsea would return in the summer. But Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United could make approaches.

Liverpool are in the market to sign midfielders in the summer. Their season has been disrupted by the awful form of current stars, particularly Fabinho in the defensive midfield role. Jurgen Klopp will remain active to correct those issues and could go for a long-term option.

Moises Caicedo is on their list of potential targets. However, if Liverpool miss out on Champions League football next season, it will potentially impact their spending powers. Hence, they may move away from the Brighton midfielder and look at a cheaper option, possibly Alvarez.

Similarly, Newcastle United also remain open to adding a quality midfielder to their setup. Eddie Howe wants a player to cover and compete with Bruno Guimaraes in the central areas. If the price is suitable, they might go in for the 25-year-old midfield general.

Alvarez could become available for a reasonable price but will not be cheap by any means. He has a contract until 2025, meaning Ajax will have a fair say in the transfer. Either way, a move to the Premier League beckons for the Mexican.
