Manchester City cool interest in James Maddison

Manchester City have reportedly cooled their interest in signing the Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

According to a report from the Telegraph, Manchester City have decided to end the pursuit of the 26-year-old England international who has been linked with other Premier League clubs as well.

James Maddison is expected to leave the King Power Stadium at the end of the season and clubs like Newcastle United are thought to be keen on securing his services.

The 26-year-old has done quite well in the Premier League scoring 8 goals and picking up 4 assists across 15 league games.

There is no doubt that the former Norwich City midfielder deserves to play at a higher level and he is likely to join a bigger club in the summer.

A move to Manchester City would have been an exceptional step up in the player’s career but the Premier League champions have distanced themselves from the player.

Manchester City need multiple midfield reinforcements at the end of the season especially with players like Ilkay Gundogan leaving and Bernardo Silva linked with a move away.

Pep Guardiola is reportedly keen on signing Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund and it remains to be seen whether Manchester City can beat the competition from clubs like Liverpool and Real Madrid to sign the 19-year-old England international.

Bellingham is likely to shatter the British transfer record and Manchester City certainly have the finances to pull off a transfer like that.

However, the defending champions are currently under investigation by the Premier League for breaching financial regulations and they could face serious punishments if the accusations levelled towards them are proven.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester City are willing to spend big money in the summer amidst all the controversy right now.

As for Maddison, he is good enough to succeed at the Champions league club and it remains to be seen where he ends up. Newcastle are well placed to secure a top four finish and they could certainly use a creator like him in the middle of the park.
