Newcastle United have their eyes set on 25-year-old Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, whose contract expires in the summer.

According to a report by GiveMeSport, Newcastle United remain interested in signing Youri Tielemans in the summer transfer window. The Magpies want to further strengthen their squad to compete for trophies in the next season. And, they have identified Tielemans as a key transfer target.

Youri Tielemans’s contract at Leicester City ends in the summer of 2023. The club have been trying to extend his contract for the last two years but there has not been any significant development. With the player set to be a free agent in a few months, a lot of clubs are closely monitoring his situation.

Tielemans has put in some impressive performances so far in the season. The 25-year-old has been a rock at the back for the Foxes. He has made 27 appearances for the club so far and has been directly involved in five goals.

Leicester City have been underwhelming in the ongoing campaign, they are currently 14th in the league. They have only managed 21 points out of their 21 games, which is well below what is expected from the former Premier League winners. They are just three points above the relegation zone and will have to battle it out for survival.

With the Foxes set to miss out on European football yet again, the departure of Tielemans becomes more likely. The Belgian international wants to feature in European club competitions and with a lot of interest from across Europe he is likely to move to a club that can offer him a bigger project.

Ever since their takeover, Newcastle United have done some excellent business in the transfer market. They have built a squad of quality players that have been impressive in the league. They are currently fourth on the points and are likely to finish in a Champions League spot.

Eddie Howe will be looking to add a few more players to the mix. The Magpies are in need of a central midfielder and Tielemans is a player who can surely help them with their highly ambitious project. There is a lot of interest from elsewhere as well and it won’t be easy for Newcastle to land him at the club.

Arsenal and Manchester United are also willing to go the distance for his services. With under six months left on his contract, he is free to agree on a pre-contract with clubs from outside England. It will be interesting to see if he opts for that or decides to run down his contract and then decide his future.
