Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic is considering a Chelsea exit in the summer of 2023.
According to a report by GiveMeSport, Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is considering a move away from the club. The 28-year-old has been in and out of the team in the recent past. With a lot of new signings in the transfer window, his spot in the XI is a doubt and as a result, the Croat is looking for a new challenge.
Premier League giants Chelsea have been the talk of the town because of their recent transfer business. They have spent a fortune acquiring some of the best talents from across the globe. The Blues are under a transition with Graham Potter in charge.
A few of their senior players might no longer be a part of his plan and will have to look for a new club. Jorginho who was one of their most important players in the past few seasons recently left the club for Arsenal. Something similar is expected to happen with Kovacic who wants a new challenge and more importantly a regular spot in the XI.
Kovacic has played over 200 matches for the Blues. He was an integral part of the team that won the Champions League back in 2021. But, of late he hasn’t had the same impact. With a few big signings in the midfield, his future at the club is in doubt.
The £150,000-a-week player’s contract at the club ends in the summer of 2024. Letting him leave ahead of the next season seems to be the best bet for both parties involved. As per reports, Potter is set to allow a few players to leave the club and Kovacic is a part of that list.
In the ongoing season, the Croatian midfielder has featured in 22 matches in all competitions. But, he has not had the desired impact. With his game time set to be compromised in the second half of the season, it is best for him to leave the club.
Chelsea are also willing to let go of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Conor Gallagher in the summer. There is a lot of interest from multiple clubs across Europe for their services.
The Blues will also see the departure of loan signings Joao Felix and Denis Zakaria. The duo will return to their respective parent clubs. While Romelu Lukaku and Hudson-Odoi are likely to return back to Stamford Bridge after their loan deal ends. There will be a lot of departures and arrivals at the club in the summer. As a result, Chelsea are expected to have a busy transfer window.
