Chelsea are reportedly ready to sell 28-year-old Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic in the summer of 2023.

After spending a fortune over the past two transfer windows, Chelsea are now expected to focus on offloading a few of their players. According to a report by The Guardian, the Blues are ready to let go of Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic. They have already sold one of their stars, Jorginho, to Arsenal in the winter window.

Chelsea are expected to back Graham Potter during this transition phase. The Englishman would love to give his new signings an extended run in the team. As a result, few of their senior players will have to look for opportunities elsewhere. And Mateo Kovacic is a name on the list of players that are likely to part ways with the Blues before the start of the next season.

The 28-year-old has been a great servant for the west London club. Unfortunately, he will have to make way for the new blood at Chelsea. The Croatian midfielder has played over 200 matches for the Blues. He has been directly involved in 19 goals during his time at the club.

The Croat was been sensational at the centre of the park. Initially, he was not a regular, but his consistent display helped him force his way into the XI. The former Real Madrid man has played 130 matches in the Premier League. During his time at Chelsea, Kovacic has played all across the pitch. His versatility has allowed the Blues to dominate European football back in the day.

Of late, Kovacic has not been the same, as he has been inconsistent. And Chelsea now want to part ways with the player. It does make sense because they have signed quite a few players. And, at times harsh, decisions have to be taken for the betterment of the club.

Chelsea have already agreed on a deal to sign Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023. Romelu Lukaku is set to return to the club in the summer because Inter Milan are not interested in extending his loan duration. The Blues will also look to sell Hakim Ziyech, whose loan move to Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day collapsed due to a technical glitch at Chelsea’s end.

As per The Guardian, the Blues are ready to sell Christian Pulisic, Kalidou Koulibaly, Mateo Kovacic, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It remains to be seen what kind of business they will do in the summer. But, one thing is certain; they are likely to be busy.
