Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio, also a target for Arsenal.
According to a report from the Fichajes, Liverpool are keen on signing a midfielder at the end of the season. And 27-year-old Real Madrid ace Marco Asensio has popped up on their radar. The report further states that Arsenal are keen on signing the talented attacking midfielder as well.
Apparently, both teams are looking to improve their midfield department. And it remains to be seen who among Arsenal and Liverpool will come forward with a concrete offer for Asensio. But pursuing the Real Madrid ace to beef up the midfield unit is somewhat perplexing.
Apparently, Liverpool are keen on signing the Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. But they will do everything in their power to sign Asensio if Real Madrid end up signing the England international.
Asensio is an attacking midfielder, but he can operate as a winger as well. Jurgen Klopp needs to add more technical ability and creativity in the final third. And Asensio will certainly address that problem. The Spaniard will help create more opportunities for players like Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta has been overly reliant on the likes of Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli this season. The Arsenal manager needs to add more depth to his squad so that the Gunners can fight on all fronts next season.
He will need to add more quality to his attack, and the signing of Asensio could prove to be a wise decision. Recent reports have even suggested that Arsenal have lined up talks with the Real Madrid attacker.
The Real Madrid attacking midfielder should be an ideal fit at the north London club because of Arteta’s playing style. And he will also be able to challenge for major trophies with the Gunners. The 27-year-old has not been a regular starter for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season. And a player of his quality will want to start every week.
It is evident that he will have to leave Real Madrid in order for that to happen. Furthermore, Asensio’s contract with the Spanish club expires in the summer of 2023, and the two parties have not been able to agree on an extension. Arsenal and Liverpool will be able to sign the Real Madrid attacker on a free transfer. And Asensio would be a major bargain for each club.
