Arsenal will soon open talks with the agents of Marco Asensio to bring the soon-to-be-free Real Madrid forward to north London.

According to Daily Mirror, Marco Asensio is a summer target for Arsenal. The north London club will soon open talks with the agent of the Real Madrid forward to explore whether a move is possible after the season on a free transfer.

Marco Asensio is at a crossroads of a meaningful career decision, with his Real Madrid contract set to expire in the summer. But he can still stay at the club beyond this season, and Los Blancos will decide on making a fresh contract proposal until March or April.

After a period on the sidelines in the season’s early stages, Asensio has fought back and has been playing regularly since. His numbers on the pitch are also improving, with the attacker posting two goals and three assists in 14 La Liga appearances.

He has also started two of the last three La Liga games and scored against Valencia in a 2-0 win. Asensio could continue his career at Real Madrid if they can provide assurances over playing time, something they are yet to decide.

President Florentino Perez and manager Carlo Ancelotti value the attacker. But much will depend on their long-term planning for the position. Brazilian international Rodrygo Goes is knocking on the door to become a starter. And if Asensio leaves, the position will be his and Federico Valverde’s to contest.

Since his current contract expires in the summer, many clubs, including Barcelona, are vying for a move. Apart from regular playing time, Asensio also seeks a four-year contract and a reasonable pay rise over the £118,000-a-week wages he currently earns at Real Madrid.

Arsenal have emerged as one of the club keen on the soon-to-be-free Real Madrid forward. The Gunners will enter the market for an attacking signing in the summer as Mikel Arteta looks for a player to cover Bukayo Saka on the right wing.

Asensio is primarily an attacking midfielder. But under Ancelotti, he primarily plays on the right wing. Considering Arsenal already have Martin Odegaard and Fabio Vieira in the No.10 position, it would make sense to see Asensio in the right attacking role.

The Gunners will soon open talks with his agents in London to explore the idea of a move. Much will depend on how much playing time Arteta guarantees to the player. But the Arsenal boss is reportedly a fan of the soon-to-be-free Real Madrid forward.

The Gunners are in flying form now, and winning the Premier League improves their chances of attracting top talents to the Emirates. Asensio could prove a good addition considering Arsenal are looking to sign some expensive central midfielders in the summer.
