Liverpool and Aston Villa are reportedly considering making a move for Nico Williams in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by AS via Sports Witness, Liverpool and Aston Villa are considering signing Athletic Club attacker Nico Williams in the summer. The 20-year-old winger is a huge prospect and has been putting in some impressive performances of late. He has attracted a lot of interest from the top European leagues.

Nico Williams has a €50 million buyout clause in his contract, which makes things a lot more interesting. The Spain international’s current contract at the club ends in the summer of 2024. While Athletic Club should think about selling him before his contract runs down, they will still push to secure his services for the future. And, they won’t let him leave for anything less than €50 million.

There are chances that they will give him a decent contract extension offer. But, a lot will depend on where they finish in the league. Currently, Athletic Club are seventh in La Liga and have a realistic chance of making it to the Europa League next season. If they manage to get into European football for next season, they will have a better chance of securing the future of the player at the club.

Inaki Williams’s younger brother has been a constant threat for the opposition in the ongoing season. He has been running down the wing and beating defenders for fun. Williams has played 25 matches in the ongoing season and has been directly involved in 12 goals. He has made over 50 La Liga appearances in total. And, is a talent for the future.

Amidst interest from Liverpool and Aston Villa, the young attacker has still been committed to the cause at Athletic. The Merseyside club are having a nightmare season. They are currently 10th in the Premier League with just 29 points out of a possible 60.

Jurgen Klopp will be looking to revamp his squad in the summer of 2023. With the contract of Roberto Firmino at the club ending in six months’ time and clubs like Real Madrid interest, it makes perfect sense for Liverpool to push for the services of the 20-year-old attacker who has immense potential.

As far as Aston Villa are concerned, they are just behind Liverpool on the points table. The Birmingham-based club have not been at their best for the majority of the season. But, ever since the arrival of Unai Emery, the fortunes of the club have changed. They have won three out of their last five matches.

Aston Villa are on the up and will be hoping to add a few players in the summer to further strengthen themselves. Emery is believed to be a big admirer of Williams. And, he would love to have him at the club. With his contract expiring in 2024 and a €50 million buyout clause, it will be interesting to if he stays at Athletic Club or heads to the Premier League.
