Arsenal target Real Sociedad duo Martin Zubimendi and Brais Mendez next summer to improve their first-team squad.
According to Fichajes, Arsenal have set their sights on two Real Sociedad stars as they remain keen on Brais Mendez and Martin Zubimendi. The La Liga duo have had fantastic seasons so far and are fast emerging on Mikel Arteta’s radar for summer moves.
Arsenal are a club on the rise, and their position at the Premier League summit is proof of that. Mikel Arteta has wholly transformed the club in a few years, making them challengers of the highest order.
The Arsenal boss will aim to win the Premier League this season and think about having a side ready to challenge for the title next season. He will also have the Champions League in mind and hence will want to stay on the path of making the right decisions in the transfer market.
In January, they strengthened with players that may help them over the line concerning the Premier League title. They might have big plans to bolster the first team in the summer. Arteta would like to bring at least two midfielders to his ranks, while there are whispers he may also look for further attacking reinforcements.
A central midfielder and a right winger are crucial to their plans, but Arteta likes a playmaker to nurture his attack. Real Sociedad duo Brais Mendez and Martin Zubimendi have emerged on Arsenal’s radar, with the latter also a target during the January window.
Arteta wanted a new midfielder as cover for Thomas Partey and one who could later take on the mantle from the Ghanaian star. While reports suggested they tried for Zubimendi by approaching to pay his €60 million release clause, the midfielder wanted to stay put. There are reports already suggesting they could plot a summer transfer.
Arsenal might return with a summer approach, as Arteta is likely to target him, Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo with a move in the summer. The Gunners are confident of signing one or even two of those stars, with the manager firmly looking to keep up the momentum with other clubs.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also interested in Mendez. The attacking midfielder is having a terrific season with Real Sociedad, with 10 goals and 7 assists in all competitions. He has helped the club move into the third spot in La Liga and could finish in the Champions League places.
Arsenal already have a host of attacking midfielders, as Arteta targets superior squad depth and intense competition for places. Mendez has a contract until 2028, and a release clause could be in place, but the details remain under wraps for now.
The La Liga duo could add some terrific quality to this Arsenal side. With only some of the current stars likely to depart after the season, adding stars of superior quality would make the Gunners challengers on all fronts next season.
