Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Serie A giants Napoli.

According to a report from Fichajes, Manchester United are hoping to sign 24-year-old Napoli striker Victor Osimhen at the end of the season.

Osimhen has been in exceptional form this season, scoring 14 goals in Serie A for the Italian club. Manchester United need to sign a quality goal scorer, and the Nigerian would be a superb long-term acquisition for them.

The report claims that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag remains a big admirer of the striker. And it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils are prepared to pay over the odds to secure his services.

Apparently, Napoli will not let the player leave for cheap and they will demand a fee of around €100 million for his services. But Manchester United are not afraid to pay the required price to land the Nigerian striker. There is no doubt that the Red Devils have the financial muscle to pull off the transfer, and it remains to be seen how the situation evolves.

Osimhen has already proven himself in Serie A, and he could be tempted to join the Premier League now. The opportunity to showcase his qualities in England could be an attractive option for the player.

Furthermore, a move to Manchester United could help him continue his development and fulfil his tremendous potential. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has a proven track record of nurturing talented young players. And he could have a positive impact on the development of Osimhen as well.

The Red Devils decided to terminate the contract of Cristiano Ronaldo earlier on in the season. And they have been overly reliant on Marcus Rashford as their main goalscorer now. The England international needs more help in the final third, and Osimhen could share the goalscoring burden alongside him next season.

Furthermore, Rashford has proven to be more effective as a left-sided forward. And the arrival of Osimhen will allow him to operate in a more natural role. The 24-year-old Napoli striker is unlikely to have any shortage of suitors in the summer transfer window. And it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can beat the competition and secure his services.

The Red Devils are currently well-placed to secure UEFA Champions League qualification. And they must ensure a top-four finish if they want to attract top-class talents. The 24-year-old will be hoping to play for a club that can compete for the major trophies and Manchester United will struggle to attract him without the lure of Champions League football.
