Chelsea were reportedly keen on signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat during the January transfer window.
According to a report from Daily Mail, Chelsea tried to sign Morocco international midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on loan last month.
Apparently, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly made a late move to sign the 26-year-old midfielder on loan from Fiorentina. But the Serie A club refused to let him leave on a temporary basis and demanded a substantial fee for a permanent transfer.
Furthermore, the Italian club had a spat with the Chelsea co-owner as well for turning up late and trying to sign a key player on a loan deal. Chelsea eventually signed the Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez instead. Fiorentina even rejected an offer from Barcelona for the 26-year-old.
Amrabat was outstanding for his country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, helping Morocco reach the semi-finals of the competition. The 26-year-old’s combative displays in Qatar earned plaudits from all around the globe, and he was linked with clubs like Liverpool as well.
