Chelsea have reportedly sealed the deal for 17-year-old Southampton academy star Jimmy Jay Morgan for £6 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed on a deal with Southampton to sign Jimmy Jay Morgan. The Premier League giants are all set to pay £6 million with add-ons for the English striker. The January transfer window saw Chelsea make quite a few signings, and Morgan is another player on their long list of arrivals.

The 2006-born striker Jimmy Jay Morgan will join the Chelsea academy after the deal is made official. He is a signing for the future. And it looks like the Blues have got their hands on a top talent. The 17-year-old is highly rated and was on the radar of a few big across England. But, Chelsea have made sure they seal the deal before it is too late.

While Morgan prefers to play as a striker, he can even play on the left flank if needed. He is excellent on the ball and has what it takes to play at the senior level. In the ongoing season, he has made 13 appearances for Southampton’s youth team. The English striker has been involved in 11 goals, scoring six and creating the other five.

He has played 22 matches for Southampton’s U18 team in which he has been directly involved in 14 goals. As far as the Southampton B team goes, he has played 13 matches for them and has contributed with five goals and as many assists.

Morgan is yet to make his senior debut. But looking at his progress in the last few years, he might soon get his opportunity. The teenager’s move to Chelsea will surely help him develop at a faster rate, and he might even make it into the first team next season.

Chelsea have signed quite a few forwards in the recent windows. But they still lack an out-and-out goal scorer. While Morgan is not yet ready to feature in the English top flight, he can surely make a case for himself with impressive performances in the remainder of the season with the youth team.

The likes of Arsenal, Leeds United, and Manchester City were interested in the Southampton academy star a few weeks back. But, the club was not ready to let go of him with 18 months still left on his scholarship deal. Chelsea entered the race late but managed to get the job done. And, it will be interesting to see if and when he makes it into the first team.
