Manchester United have rejected the chance to sign former Chelsea midfielder Saul Niguez after reportedly being offered to the club.

According to Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports, Manchester United rejected the chance to sign at least four new midfielders, including Saul Niguez. The Atletico Madrid star was one of the midfield options offered to the Red Devils, but the Premier League side were uninterested.

Manchester United had no plans to enter the transfer window this month as Erik ten Hag wanted to wait until the summer to get his proper targets. The Dutch manager believed he had the squad to sustain the season despite some underperforming attackers.

With plenty of depth in the attacking unit, Manchester United needed more quality in midfield. Only Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have performed consistently this season, which made the fans urge the club to sign another player in the position.

Until today, Manchester United were ready to close the window with only Wout Weghorst as their senior arrival. The Dutch striker arrived on loan for six months from Burnley. The late injury on Sunday to key midfielder Eriksen changed the manager’s thinking, especially after revelations that the Danish midfielder will remain sidelined until late April.

They took a decision and decided to pursue Marcel Sabitzer. Manchester United have since reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for the Austrian midfielder on a six-month loan deal. In the end, there will be no option to buy.

While Manchester United were only interested in Sabitzer, intermediaries reportedly offered many other players, including former Chelsea midfielder Saul Niguez. The Spaniard is out of favour at Atletico Madrid, and the club are looking for options in the market.

Manchester United swiftly rejected the chance to sign Saul and other players. Those included Isco, Houssem Aouar, and Yannick Carrasco. In the end, the Red Devils only wanted Sabitzer, and it may appear they have got their man.

A late move for Saul may still materialise in the window, possibly on a loan deal somewhere. As for Manchester United, their business is over for this window, and Ten Hag will go into the remainder of this season with the current squad.
