According to a reported by 90min, Chelsea will make one final attempt to sign Moises Caicedo, a target for Arsenal, from Brighton & Hove Albion once they wrap up the Enzo Fernandez deal. They have been interested in the two midfielders throughout the transfer window.
The west London club are reportedly on the verge of signing Enzo Fernandez. Chelsea are in touch with Benfica and are trying to close this deal before they shift their focus to Moises Caicedo. And the Blues can thus hijack Arsenal’s move for the 21-year-old midfielder.
According to the report, Chelsea are set to offer over £75 million to test Brighton, who have rejected quite a few offers for the player. Earlier in the month, Chelsea tried to acquire the midfielder, but the clubs failed to agree on a deal. The Seagulls were certain that Chelsea would return late in the window, and that is likely to happen.
The 21-year-old midfielder has made 21 appearances for Brighton this season in all competitions. 18 of his 21 outings have come in the English top flight. And the youngster has been rock solid in defensive phases while also been an attacking threat at times.
The Ecuadorian midfielder joined Brighton back in 2021. And he has been putting in stellar performances at the centre of the park since then. Chelsea’s star midfielders N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are nearing the end of their contracts at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are in need of replacement, and it cannot get better than a 21-year-old, who has proven his mettle in the Premier League.
Italian midfielder Jorginho has been linked with a move to rivals Arsenal. And, if this deal goes through before the deadline. Chelsea will have no option but to land a midfielder to improve their chances of finishing in the top six.
In the last few days, Arsenal who have also stepped up their quest for Caicedo’s services. The Gunners have been interested in acquiring the 21-year-old midfielder for a while now. But their sizeable offers have been rejected by Brighton. Since the start of the window, the Seagulls have insisted that he is not for sale.
Chelsea have the financial power, and they will surely test the Seagulls with a hefty bid of over £75 million. Nothing is certain, but it is likely to go down to the wire. And, we could see Caicedo move to Stamford Bridge instead of Arsenal before the window closes.
