La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly negotiating a deadline-day loan move for 21-year-old Mexican right-back Julian Araujo.
According to a report by 90min, Julian Araujo is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have submitted a bid to sign the 21-year-old right-back on loan from LA Galaxy. And the youngster is pushing to join the Blaugrana, who will replace Hector Bellerin with him.
Julian Araujo was born and brought up in California and spent his formative years in the USA. He passed through various academies in the country before graduating from LA Galaxy’s youth division. But the youngster chose to represent Mexico on the international stage after playing age-group football for the US.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old has made over 100 appearances for LA Galaxy, chipping in with two goals and 14 assists. Araujo’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with several European clubs showing interest in him. And the player’s next destination might be Barcelona, who will look to sign him on Tuesday.
The Catalan giants have failed to land a top-class right-back since Dani Alves’s first stint ended several years ago. Since then, players like Sergi Roberto, Nelson Semedo, Sergino Dest, and Hector Bellerin have tried and failed to fill Alves’s void. And the veteran Brazilian has ironically been Barcelona’s best right-back since his first spell ended.
Bellerin is the latest right-back to fail to make his mark at Spotify Camp Nou. And the Spaniard is closing in on leaving Barcelona to join Sporting CP on deadline day. Following Bellerin’s departure, Barcelona will look to bring in a replacement before the January transfer window shuts down. And Araujo has emerged as a viable target.
The Catalan giants have moved quickly to try and seal the deal for the 21-year-old right-back. They have already submitted an offer to sign the Mexican international on loan for the rest of the season. And Araujo is pushing to join Barcelona before the transfer deadline on Tuesday.
Barcelona will have the option to sign the 21-year-old right-back permanently in the summer. But it is unclear if LA Galaxy will give the green light to Araujo to move to Spotify Camp Nou. The youngster has previously revealed his desire to play in Europe. And a loan stint with Barcelona might be on the cards.
