Arsenal close in on signing Moises Caicedo

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on signing Moises Caicedo after launching a club-record third bid for the midfielder.

According to Jacque Talbot, Arsenal have put forward a third bid for top midfield target Moises Caicedo in the last hours. The offer is expected to break the club transfer record fee for a single player, which currently stands at the outlay on Nicolas Pepe back in 2019.

Moises Caicedo has become the hot subject in this transfer window, with Arsenal at the forefront of a potential deal. The Gunners are eager to adding a new midfielder before today’s deadline, with Mikel Arteta keen to cover an important position.

Many players have been mentioned as potential targets, including Youri Tielemans, Ibrahima Bamba, and Martin Zubimendi, among others. Arsenal, however, decided that Caicedo was their primary target and launched a £60 million bid, which saw a swift rejection.

At that point, Brighton insisted they did not want to lose Caicedo at this stage of the season. They stood strong and suggested he was not for sale at any price. Yet, Arsenal went back with a second offer worth £70 million, including add-ons.

Arsenal were expected to launch a club-record third bid for the 21-year-old midfielder on deadline day. This offer will have to break their transfer record. The current one was for Nicolas Pepe in 2019, when the Gunners paid £72 million. Now, Jacque Tablot insists the new offer has gone in and that Brighton could accept it.

Talbot also claims Arsenal have structured the deal so that Brighton will receive a huge lump-sum payment up front, with the rest structured for future dates. If the report is true, it is a massive coup for the Gunners in their quest to compete for the Premier League title.

Late on Monday, they also enquired about Jorginho, with the Chelsea midfielder thought to be available on deadline day. Since Chelsea are closing in on Enzo Fernandez, the experienced Italian could move on. In this case, much will depend on how much the Blues ask for Jorginho, who has six months left on his current deal.

Even the Jorginho chase will depend on Arsenal’s failure to land Caicedo, who will remain their top target on deadline day. For now, one needs to wait for more concrete reports on this supposed third offer for the 21-year-old midfielder.
