Tottenham Hotspur are expected to finalise a deal for 23-year-old Spanish international Pedro Porro this weekend.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signature of Spanish full-back Pedro Porro this weekend.

The Sporting CP star has been one of the club’s best players this season and has been a dominant player on the flank. A return of three goals and 11 assists in 25 games for Sporting reflects the impact that Porro has had on the Leoes.

His attacking impetus combined with the defensive nous makes the 23-year-old an ideal fit for Antonio Conte’s system. The Italian’s preferred 3-5-2 system is largely brought to life by the marauding full-backs who run up and down the pitch the whole game.

The arrival of Ivan Perisic last summer handed Tottenham the dynamism they needed on the left. However, that is in stark contrast to Matt Doherty’s inconsistency and Emerson Royal’s struggles on the opposite flank. Something needed to be done this January, and Daniel Levy and co. swiftly identified Porro as a solution.

A solid dribbler with the ability to cross, Porro could lay opportunities for Harry Kane on a platter. More so, he should largely eradicate the defensive uncertainty that plagues the Tottenham on the right wing.

As things stand, the deal is progressing swiftly and appears to have the blessings of all the parties involved. Unless perhaps previously-linked suitor, Chelsea pop up with another 11th-hour bid, the 23-year-old defender is expected to officially join Tottenham this weekend.

Intermediaries are set to meet up and resolve the issues between Sporting and Tottenham, more or less completing the final formalities of the transfer to north London. The Premier League will not be unfamiliar to Porro, even though he never made his mark for Manchester United.

The Spaniard failed to make a single senior appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side and was repeatedly sent out on loan. He will now return as a different player, far developed down the line and with a point to prove. Should he perform as intended, it could future-proof a key position on the Tottenham roster for years to come.

Tottenham have already signed Arnaut Danjuma on loan and look likely to add Porro to that list. It gives Antonio Conte two fresh weapons as he seeks to improve upon the club’s fortunes in the second half of the campaign. Surely, he should have enough in the locker now to finish in the top four and perhaps even put in a cup run.
