Tottenham are ready to trigger the €45 million release clause to sign Pedro Porro after Sporting CP’s adamant stance on the right-back.

According to Record, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to pay up €45 million to sign Pedro Porro. Spurs had made several attempts and proposed many ideas to reduce the Spanish defender’s price tag. But they are now resigned to triggering the release clause to get their priority target.

Tottenham have spent the whole month chasing Pedro Porro and trying to convince Sporting CP to reduce their asking price. The Spanish defender has a €45 million release clause. And the Portuguese club repeatedly pointed to the valuation for suitors to sign the right-back.

Antonio Conte has wanted a new wing-back since the start of the window and had earmarked a move for the Spanish defender. Porro has already given the green light to the move, but Sporting CP’s stance has proved problematic for Tottenham in their quest.

Tottenham tried different ideas to get a deal done, including offering a player in part-exchange. They also proposed 50% rights of attacker Marcus Edwards to tempt Sporting. The Portuguese giants reportedly rejected a €34 million bid for Porro and continued to point towards his €45 million release clause.

Reports of Tottenham’s intention to hold fresh talks emerged, and they were preparing a ‘final’ offer to sign the right back. They intend to bring the Spanish defender to north London and solve a problem hounding Conte since the start of the season.

While they were reportedly expected to table a new bid, that may as well be the release clause. Anything lower will see Sporting reject another Spurs proposal and bring the situation back to square one. For now, Tottenham are showing the intent to get the deal done, and the player wants the move. Hence the deal is likely to happen before the month’s end.

Spurs also tried looking at alternatives to Porro. Denzel Dumfries was a target, and they spoke with his agent when he was in London. Inter Milan’s asking price of around €55-60 million put Tottenham off the pursuit, and they switched their attention back to Porro.

Chelsea were also briefly interested in Porro, which somewhat concerned Tottenham fans. The Blues are now pushing to sign Malo Gusto from Lyon, leaving Tottenham with a clear path to conclude a deal for Porro.

When are we going to sign a couple of centre backs and another keeper? that’s what we are crying out for but all we hear is all these wingers we’re going to buy.
