Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Everton winger Anthony Gordon, a target for Chelsea, this month.

According to a report from Daily Telegraph, Everton are prepared to lower their asking price for the England under-21 international. And the player is expected to complete the move this month amid interest from Newcastle United and Chelsea.

Apparently, Everton were holding out for a fee of around £60 million, and Newcastle United had threatened to walk away from the transfer. However, the Toffees have now changed their tune and are willing to consider a deal of around £40 million including add-ons.

It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can secure an agreement before the January transfer window closes. Apparently, Gordon has missed training with Everton for the last three days, and he has already made it clear to the Merseyside outfit that he to join Newcastle United this month. It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few days.

Everton are currently 19th in the Premier League table and are fighting for survival. Losing a key player like Gordon will definitely come as a damaging blow for them. And it will be interesting to see if the Toffees can invest the proceeds from the sale intelligently and improve their squad this month.

Everton recently missed out on signing Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal after the Dutchman opted to join Tottenham Hotspur despite undergoing his medical with the Toffees. Everton desperately need attacking reinforcements, having scored just 15 goals in 19 league matches.

On top of that, the Merseyside outfit have just sacked Frank Lampard as their manager after a series of disappointing displays. And it will be interesting to see who they bring in as his replacement. The latest updates suggest Sean Dyche will take the hotseat at Goodison Park.

As for Gordon, the 21-year-old has not been at his best this season and will hope to get his career back on track with the move to Newcastle. Eddie Howe has worked wonders with talented young players throughout his managerial career. And he could be the ideal manager to bring out the best in Gordon. But it is unclear if the Magpies are ready to pay £40 million to sign the young winger.

Gordon has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea as well. However, the Blues are yet to make an offer for the player. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are ready to submit an offer for another winger after signing Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke this month.
