Pep Guardiola has requested the signing of Enzo Fernandez in the summer as he plans to strengthen the Manchester City squad significantly.

According to Fichajes, Manchester City are interested in signing Enzo Fernandez. Pep Guardiola has reportedly the signing of the 22-year-old World Cup winner as he plans to strengthen his midfield options next season.

Manchester City come close to a complete squad from an outside view. They have consistently competed for honours in the last half a dozen years, whether for the Premier League or other honours. Winning the UEFA Champions League remains a dream for Guardiola after conquering the domestic ones on many occasions.

Despite Manchester City’s squad coming across as complete from many angles, Guardiola is far from satisfied with the quality. He wants to make the team stronger in every position. This season, there have been plenty of lapses in concentration and disappointment with results.

The Catalan manager remains in the hunt for players that would improve the current squad. Among the many positions he is keen to strengthen, central midfield is closely seen as an important area by Guardiola. While Rodri remains his main choice in the holding midfield role, he needs a solid alternative for the Spaniard.

Guardiola is reportedly dissatisfied with summer signing Kalvin Phillips. He may look to dispose of the England international. Few reports have suggested Manchester City could use the former Leeds midfielder in a swap deal to sign West Ham United captain Declan Rice.

Rice is currently linked with Arsenal and Chelsea and may look to remain in London for the foreseeable future. While the England international could still move to Manchester City, Guardiola has a decent list of players he would like the club to sign.

Those include 22-year-old World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez. Guardiola views the Argentine as a viable competitor for Rodri in the holding midfield position. The Benfica midfielder came close to joining Chelsea earlier in the month. But since the move broke down, he will become available next summer.

While Chelsea could make another attempt to sign him, Benfica are thoroughly uninterested in selling him this month. Hence, there is every chance for Manchester City to make their interest known to the 22-year-old World Cup winner and make a summer approach.

Guardiola has reportedly requested the club to make a priority move for Fernandez in the summer. The Argentine could prove a solid acquisition for Manchester City in the future, and he has already shown his ability to play at the highest possible level.

If Manchester City enter the chase for the 22-year-old World Cup winner, Chelsea will consider it as a huge blow in his pursuit. They may switch their attention towards Moises Caicedo or Declan Rice. A transfer battle for the duo could ensue with Arsenal and other top Premier League sides.
