Chelsea preparing offer to sign Malo Gusto

Chelsea are set to continue their transfer spending as they are willing to enter the race of Lyon right-back Malo Gusto.

According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Chelsea have opted to go all-out for Lyon right-back Malo Gusto in this month. The Blues are in desperate need of a right-back and have targeted the player as a necessary part of their squad.

The Blues have been spending money freely as Graham Potter wants to have a competent squad at the end of this current transfer window. They already have sealed five transfers this month, and a couple of moves are in the pipeline as things stand.

Results have been pretty underwhelming for the Blues as a top-four spot is seemingly out of their grasp as per the current scenario. The new owners are adamant to restore parity in West London. And things are moving in the right direction as far as their transfer strategy is concerned.

Reece James’s injury woes have not been kind for Chelsea, as they have struggled to fill his void. Trevoh Chalobah has been used in that role, while Cesar Azpilicueta has passed his prime. And Chelsea desperately need an alternative to James.

The English international is close to returning to first-team football. But Chelsea want to have an adequate backup ready for the near future. Gusto’s speed can be decisive at times as he sometimes acts as a wide player. And recent reports have claimed that the Blues are edging closer to landing him.

Younger players have been the need of the hour due to financial obligations, and Gusto could be tempted into a move to the Premier League. Lyon are reluctant to part ways with their academy product. But a teasing bid might force them to alter their plans.

The youngster has already entered the last 18 months of his current deal, and Lyon will have the urgency to make him extend his stay. Gusto has had a triumphant 18 months at the French club in the senior setup. It remains to be seen whether Lyon agree to come to the table for further negotiations. But the lure of English football would be too hard to resist.
