Barcelona and Flamengo are reportedly discussing an initial loan deal for Flamengo’s 19-year-old Brazilian right-back Wesley.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Wesley is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are discussing an initial one-year loan deal with Flamengo for the teenager. And they will look to negotiate a purchase option for the 19-year-old right-back.
Wesley spent his formative years with Atletico Tubarao before joining Flamengo in 2021. The Brazilian right-back has gone from strength to strength in the last couple of years, making his mark in age-group football. And he has also made a few appearances for the first team.
The 19-year-old made his first-team debut in October 2021 and has turned out three more times since then. A right-back by trade, the teenage prodigy stands out for his physicality and technical ability. So it is hardly surprising that Wesley’s characteristics have captured the attention of FC Barcelona.
Barcelona will look to sign a right-back this year owing to Hector Bellerin’s poor performances since arriving at Spotify Camp Nou. The Spaniard has failed to make his mark and will likely leave Barcelona as a free agent in the summer. So the Blaugrana will have to enter the market for a right-back.
Several right-backs, including Benjamin Pavard, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar. And Wesley also seems like an option worth considering. But the Blaugrana will first send the 19-year-old Brazilian right-back to Barcelona Atletic. And they will likely promote the teenager to the first team in due course once he has earned his stripes under Rafael Marquez.
Barcelona and Flamengo are currently negotiating an initial one-year loan deal for the youngster. And the Catalan giants hope to include a purchase option instead of an obligation clause. The reason why Barcelona will only manage a temporary move is the never-ending financial distress.
Lucas Roman has already bolstered Barcelona Atletic this month. And it will be interesting to see if a loan-to-buy deal for Wesley sees the light of day. For now, the Catalan giants remain in talks with Flamengo to secure the services of the 19-year-old Brazilian right-back.
