Manchester City and Real Madrid are reportedly vying for the signature of Argentine youth sensation Exequiel Zeballos.

According to Fichajes, Manchester City and Real Madrid will go up against one another in the pursuit of Boca Juniors starlet Exequiel Zeballos.

The 20-year-old has been with the legendary South American club since 2014 and is today making waves with his performances for the senior side. In 2018, he became the youngest player in the club’s history to sign a professional contract, and it is clear to see why that was the case.

A left-winger, Zeballos is capable of playing as a second striker and also on the other flank. A versatile forward, he has what it takes to fit into Europe’s best free-flowing attacks.

A solid dribbler who can pass and score, Zeballos is also an excellent dead-ball specialist. While some facets of his game need improving, few would disagree that the 20-year-old is one to watch out for.

Manchester City signed Julian Alvarez last summer and are keeping a keen eye on the South American market. To that end, another Argentine prospect, Maximo Perrone, is also closing in on joining the Citizens this year. And Zeballos might soon join Manchester City.

Jack Grealish appears lost on the left wing, and Riyad Mahrez is not getting any younger. Bringing in a replacement who is more dynamic and clinical going forward is imperative. Zeballos fits the bill and can also prove to be a solution for years to come.

Pep Guardiola employs a pass-and-move style that would suit the young Argentine winger to a tee. However, his discipline on the field leaves much to be desired and is something that needs work. The Premier League is not for the faint of heart and is a learning curve for players from outside Europe.

Real Madrid, too, have bought from the South American market in recent years. Vinicius Jr, Endrick (to join in 2024), Rodrygo Goes and Federico Valverde are all at the Santiago Bernabeu already or set to arrive and can make Zeballos feel welcome at the club. He would add to an attack that is looking increasingly young and promising.

AC Milan are also in the race but are admittedly behind the Manchester City and Real Madrid in the European footballing order. Zeballos will continue to attract interest as long as he performs. Should he keep up the same levels, there is every reason to believe that a bidding war could be on the cards.
