Arsenal are stepping up their chase of right-back Ivan Fresneda, looking to beat competition from Newcastle United for the Spanish prodigy.

According to Rudy Galetti, Arsenal have stepped up their chase of Ivan Fresneda. They remain confident of sealing a move for the Spanish prodigy. Newcastle United are also keen but may need to catch up with the Gunners in the hunt for the Real Valladolid star.

Ivan Fresneda is only 18 and is already attracting some of the biggest names towards his signature. He remains a crucial player for Real Valladolid, but the Spanish outfit could lose him if top clubs come in with proposals.

Newcastle United were early favourites to sign the Spanish prodigy. But things went quiet with the pursuit. In the meantime, Arsenal have entered the frame and become the leading contender for the 18-year-old full-back. The chatter of a move to the Emirates has grown, with the Gunners now stepping up their interest.

Mikel Arteta reportedly wanted to push the plans of signing Fresneda until the summer. However, by then, his price tag might increase, and there is every chance of another club prising him away this month. Hence, the Gunners might look to move now and bring the promising Spanish prodigy to north London.

It has been a busy 48 hours at the Emirates after Arsenal have potentially brought in two key players. First, Leandro Trossard signed from Brighton & Hove Albion in a £27 million deal. After that, the Gunners switched their attention towards their defence and agreed on a deal for Jakub Kiwior with Spezia.

They are reportedly hunting for a new midfielder before the window shuts but could also add Fresneda to their squad. Meanwhile, if the Spanish prodigy arrives, Arteta could sanction a departure for Cedric Soares. Fulham remain interested in the right-back.

Newcastle United remain keen on signing Fresneda, as Eddie Howe is intent on bringing in a viable cover for Kieran Trippier. However, the Magpies play with a different style at right-back than Arsenal, and the Spaniard is more suited to Arteta’s style. Hence the player might prefer the Gunners if it came down to the two sides battling for his signature.

Fresneda will become Cedric’s replacement at the Emirates, and Arteta is keen to develop the Spanish prodigy into his mould. The next few days will prove key in the chase, and the Gunners could make an offer and seal the signing of the 18-year-old from Real Valladolid.
