Arsenal are interested in tying up a deal for Ivan Fresneda before the transfer window shuts, with Mikel Arteta keen on the player.

According to Alex Crook, Arsenal could look to bring Ivan Fresneda before the transfer window shuts. Interest in the 18-year-old continues to rise as Newcastle United are also keen to sign him in the current window.

Talk of a possible move from Arsenal for Ivan Fresneda took over social media as several accounts posted updates on a potential deal. Since December, the 18-year-old La Liga defender has been of high interest to English sides, as a transfer could materialise before the window shuts.

Newcastle United were in the race for the right-back, but it may appear that Arsenal are currently leading the chase. The 18-year-old has impressed with his performances for Real Valladolid since the season began, and Mikel Arteta reportedly likes the player going by several stories.

Arsenal have done well in the transfer window wrapping up a move for Leandro Trossard. Within 24 hours of that news, reports of another deal surfaced after the club agreed on terms with Spezia for centre-back Jakub Kiwior.

If the conditions are right, Arteta would like to add a midfielder and even Fresneda. They do not have specific necessities in the right-back area, but if Cedric Soares leaves, Fresneda could become his replacement.

Arsenal currently plays with an ‘inverted’ right back as Arteta likes for his full-backs to slot into midfield when in possession. Ben White has played the role admirably and will probably remain Arteta’s first choice for the foreseeable future.

Yet, they would like an understudy to take on the role in the future, and Fresneda fits the profile. Newcastle United and even Tottenham have kept tabs, but going by several stories; the La Liga defender might prefer a switch to the Emirates.

Considering the widespread reports on the La Liga defender and links with Arsenal, one could assume a deal might be on the cards. The Gunners would like to wrap up a move sooner rather than later, meaning the player could arrive in London as soon as next week.

There’s also the mention of Wolves, but if Arsenal are genuinely in the race, they might overpower any other suitor for the defender.
