Arsenal are looking to close the Leandro Trossard deal in the next hours after agreeing on personal terms with the Brighton attacker.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Arsenal’s approach for Leandro Trossard, claiming the Gunners are in advanced talks with Brighton & Hove Albion. The 28-year-old Belgian international emerged as a target after losing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk recently.

Arsenal have accelerated their attempts to sign an attacker this month after approaching Leandro Trossard. The 28-year-old Belgian international is in the market, and the Gunners are keen to bring him to the Emirates. Mikel Arteta has been searching for a new forward, and the Brighton man could become the answer.

Arsenal did not envisage coming to this stage without a signing in January. They were keen and confident about signing Mykhaylo Mudryk very early in the month. The Gunners were in pursuit of the Ukrainian international for quite a while. Eventually, Chelsea nicked the winger from under their nose.

The decision from the winger came as a blow for Arsenal and Arteta, as they wanted a new wide attacking option to sustain a title challenge. As has been the case in recent windows when Arsenal failed to achieve their primary objective, they have swiftly returned to the market for an alternative.

Moussa Diaby was of interest to the Gunners. But the Bayer Leverkusen forward’s huge price tag may have put them off. Hence, Arsenal are now pursuing Leandro Trossard and remain in advanced talks with Brighton to conclude a deal soon.

Trossard was also linked with Tottenham. Brighton considered their verbal offer as too low and swiftly rejected the proposal. Arsenal have thus swooped in with an approach. And Fabrizio Romano has stated that personal terms are already agreed with the 28-year-old Belgian international.

They are reportedly discussing a fee in the region of £20 million, but Brighton may end up demanding more. Trossard recently fell out with manager Roberto De Zerbi, and his agent requested the club to aid with a transfer move away from the Amex Stadium.

The 28-year-old Belgian international has seven goals this season, including a hat-trick at Anfield. His attributes suit Arteta’s system, and he could play in any position of the forward line. Trossard’s age may become a factor, but he is still relatively young for an elite footballer.

Arsenal want to wrap up the move in the next hours and bring the forward to the Emirates before the weekend’s game against Manchester United. The Gunners sit eight points ahead of Manchester City in the Premier League table and want to add one or two stars to aid the title challenge.
