West Ham United are reportedly looking to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire on loan this month.

According to a report from Daily Mirror, West Ham United are hoping to sign England international Harry Maguire on loan from Manchester United before the January transfer window shuts down.

The Hammers have had a difficult season so far, and they are currently battling for a place in the Premier League next season. David Moyes’s side are involved in the relegation battle, and they could certainly use quality reinforcements in January in order to salvage their season. Wes Ham have already shown interest in several centre-backs, including Michael Keane.

As for Harry Maguire, the Englishman has had a tough time at Manchester United this season. And he has fallen down the pecking order since the arrivals of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. The 29-year-old is clearly not a key player for Manchester United anymore and needs to leave the club to play regular first-team football.

A move to West Ham could be ideal for Maguire during the second half of the season. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and the Hammers could provide him with the platform he needs right now. The Manchester United could also improve West Ham significantly at the back and help them beat the drop.

A January loan move seems ideal for all parties, and it remains to be seen whether Manchester United are prepared to sanction his departure this month. The Red Devils are fighting for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season, and Erik ten Hag might not be keen on weakening his squad.

Despite the fact that Maguire is not a key player for the club, he remains a useful squad player. West Ham will have to tighten up at the back if they want to survive relegation this season. And they have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks.

Maguire could prove to be an ideal fit for them. The 29-year-old is well-settled in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact at the London Stadium. Furthermore, he will be determined to prove his quality after being overlooked at Manchester United.

His determination to succeed and the hunger to prove himself could prove to be hugely beneficial for the Hammers if the transfer goes through. Meanwhile, West Ham have also shown interest in other Manchester United players, including Scott McTominay.
