Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly compete with Real Madrid and Newcastle United for Croatian international Lovro Majer.

According to a report from Media Foot, Newcastle United are hoping to improve their midfield options with the signing of the Croatian international Lovro Majer. But the Magpies face competition from PSG and Real Madrid for the Rennes midfielder.

The 24-year-old was a part of the Croatian national team in the recently-concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup. And his performances at the club level have attracted the attention of several top clubs. He has two goals and three assists to his name across all competitions for Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.

Newcastle signed a quality midfielder in Bruno Guimaraes, and they will need to find a reliable partner for him. The Croatian international has thus emerged as a viable long-term target. And it remains to be seen whether they can secure his services in the coming months.

Newcastle United are currently fighting for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season. And if they manage to secure a top-four finish, there is no reason why they cannot attract top talents like Majer.

The report further states that Spanish giants Real Madrid are keen on signing the player as well. Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are in their twilight years, and the Spanish giants will have to find long-term replacements for them in the coming months. The Croatian international could prove to be a superb acquisition for Los Blancos.

Similarly, PSG could use more depth in the midfield as well. Marco Verratti has been excellent since joining the club. But the Italian international has had his fair share of injury problems. Signing Majer will add more depth and quality to the Ligue 1 in the middle of the park. All three clubs have the financial resources to pull off the transfer. And it will be interesting to see where the 24-year-old ends up eventually.

The Croat needs to join a club where he will get regular first-team football. He cannot afford to sit on the bench at a top club at this stage of his career. And it will be interesting to see which of the three clubs are prepared to provide him with game time assurances. Majer has the tools to develop into a world-class player. And whoever ends up signing him will have a future star on their hands.
