Chelsea in talks to sign prolific PSV Eindhoven star Noni Madueke
According to GiveMeSport, Premier League side Chelsea are interested in Noni Madueke and are already in talks with the player’s agent in the ongoing January transfer window.
The 20-year-old is making waves with his performances in the Eredivisie the past few seasons. In 80 appearances for Eindhoven, he has 20 goals and 19 assists, an impressive return for a player still developing his game.
Capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, Madueke has predominantly started on the right wing. A strong dribbler who can also make defence-splitting passes and crosses, the 20-year-old has everything in his locker to carve open opposition defences.
Madueke is no stranger to the English game having come through the youth systems at Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur. While he never managed a senior appearance for either team, the stint in Eredivisie has shown exactly what he can do.
Chelsea require attacking reinforcements and are making the right noises under Todd Boehly. The Blues have already gone big on Mykhaylo Mudryk and brought Joao Felix on a six-month loan. Given the uncertain futures of Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic, it is clear that more additions are needed.
While signing Madueke in the current winter transfer window might not bring about immediate rewards, the 20-year-old will look to fit into Graham Potter’s system and prepare for future campaigns.
Chelsea have already had an opening offer of £26 million rejected, and it remains to be seen if they will return with improved terms. PSV appear to be holding out for £31m and have the upper hand in negotiations, given the player signed a four-year deal only last August.
The Eredivisie giants already lost Cody Gakpo to Liverpool earlier this month, and it could impact whether Madueke is also allowed to move on. Chelsea will also have to face competition from fellow Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Tottenham, both of who are keeping tabs on their former protege.
The youngster is far from the finished article and still has much to learn. Potter has an enviable record of developing talent, and a move to Stamford Bridge could prove to be a blessing for Madueke.
